Goals

  • Teach SCI 270, The Science of Sound

The successful candidate will teach a science-based course in Spring 2025 with the following course outcomes:

1) Understand the wave nature of sound; how sound is produced; and how sound interacts with the environment; 2) Master the basics of electronics, electricity, and magnetism and how comparative these energy waves are to sound waves; 3) Learn basic descriptive mathematics for all of the above; 4) Apply the above to instruments and techniques of sound production, reproduction, and amplification.

The candidate must be well-versed in energy waves, most especially the behavior and calculation of sound waves. The course is an elective for all Kakos School of Arts and Sciences students, especially the Sound Studies majors, who focus on music technology, audio recording/editing, music theory, and sound design. The course will be offered one day a week from Jan. 14 to May 2, 2025, with an added week (May 5-10) for the final exam and/or presentation.

Instructor $4,431.83

Assistant Professor $4,578.76

Associate Professor $4,726.94

Professor $4,875.13
