Position Title: Assistant Dean of the School of Engineering

Stipend: $15K-$20K

Position Description:

The Assistant Dean of the School of Engineering (“the School”) is a key leadership position, requiring a balance of administrative, academic, and interpersonal skills. The Assistant Dean must have a passion for fostering academic excellence, a dedication to student success, an entrepreneurial mindset, and the ability to lead in a dynamic and collaborative academic environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Supports the Dean in executing the School's mission, promoting academic excellence, and enhancing the overall student experience within the School;

Academic Leadership:

  1. Works with the Dean, the Department Chairs (“the Chairs”), the School’s engineering programs, and the Office of Admissions in planning, developing, and executing on- and off-campus events for prospective students;

  2. Works with the Dean, the Chairs, the School’s engineering programs, and other units of the University in planning, developing, and executing events for new and transfer students, such as orientation and informational sessions;

  3. Participates in the Chairs' meetings and any other School-wide administrative meetings.

Student Success:

  1. Collaborates with the Dean, the Chairs, the School’s engineering programs, and the Centralized Advising Office to support academic and faculty advising to ensure student retention;

  2. Addresses student concerns and academic integrity issues, contributes to conflict resolution, and maintains a supportive academic environment;

  3. Advises the Dean and Associate Dean on contested grade cases;

  4. Supports the Dean and the Centralized Advising Office by identifying and advising regarding academic determinations (probation/contract/suspension/dismissal);

  5. Assists the Dean and Associate Dean with addressing parent concerns involving curricular matters;

  6. Assists faculty moderators of honor societies in identifying qualified student candidates.

Administrative Management:

  1. Works with the Chairs to monitor course enrollments to ensure institutional goals and standards are met;

  2. Helps coordinate policies and procedures for transfer credit evaluations with the relevant units across University;

  3. Supports the Dean, the School’s engineering programs and the administrative staff, to ensure efficient operations within the School;

  4. Signs off on student paperwork such as grade change forms, grade replacement forms, off-campus course approval forms, independent study forms, and any other relevant student paperwork.

Other special projects and duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

The applicant shall be a tenured faculty member in the School of Engineering (preferably holding the rank of Associate Professor or Professor) at Manhattan University. The individual will not hold any other administrative responsibility (such as Department Chair, Graduate Program Director, etc.) at the University concurrently with the Assistant Dean position.

Compensation:

The Assistant Dean will receive course release resulting in an effective 2:2 teaching load and a separate administrative stipend during the summer. This will be a 12-month appointment. The initial appointment will be for one year and has the possibility for renewal.
