Research Assistant for O'Brien Lab in Biological and Chemical Sciences

Short summary of position: The O’Brien lab in the Department of Biological and Chemical Sciences seeks 1-2 students as Research Assistants to aid in Drosophila lab maintenance.
Key responsibilities:
- Be available to work 4 to 7 hours per week. Exact schedule will be determined after hiring.
- Inventory and organize laboratory supplies.
- Help prepare solutions and refill reagents.
- Maintain the cleanliness of lab spaces and common equipment used in the laboratories.
- Help with washing and putting away laboratory glassware and other equipment
- Prepare Drosophila food on a weekly basis
- Maintain Drosophila stocks and crosses
Reports to: Dr. O’Brien
Qualifications:
- Completed general biology and/or general chemistry labs.
- Good academic standing.
- Basic laboratory skills and comfortable working in a lab setting.
- Experience working with Drosophila (beyond classwork) and preparing fly food
- Be on time.
- Detail oriented and efficient.
- Good listening and communication skills.
Salary: $18/hr
