Short summary of position: The O’Brien lab in the Department of Biological and Chemical Sciences seeks 1-2 students as Research Assistants to aid in Drosophila lab maintenance.

Key responsibilities:

• Be available to work 4 to 7 hours per week. Exact schedule will be determined after hiring.
• Inventory and organize laboratory supplies.
• Help prepare solutions and refill reagents.
• Maintain the cleanliness of lab spaces and common equipment used in the laboratories.
• Help with washing and putting away laboratory glassware and other equipment
• Prepare Drosophila food on a weekly basis
• Maintain Drosophila stocks and crosses

Reports to: Dr. O’Brien

Qualifications:

• Completed general biology and/or general chemistry labs.
• Good academic standing.
• Basic laboratory skills and comfortable working in a lab setting.
• Experience working with Drosophila (beyond classwork) and preparing fly food
• Be on time.
• Detail oriented and efficient.
• Good listening and communication skills.

Salary: $18/hr
