Area Coordinator

Department: Director of Residence [3010]
Location: Riverdale, NY

Under the supervision of the Director of Residence Life, the Area Coordinator is responsible for the educational leadership and overall operations of two residence halls. They recruit, motivate, train and supervise a team of Resident Assistants. They assist, guide and support the resident students as well as respond in a timely manner to referral requests. They liaise with the Physical Plant team to ensure repairs are made and students requests are fulfilled promptly. Housing and a meal plan are provided at no cost to the employee.

Responsibilities:

  • This role interprets and enforces a wide variety of College and residence life policies governing student behavior and conduct, including participating disciplinary procedures and judicial reviews.
  • The Area Coordinator works with Public Safety, Counseling Center, Dining Services, Facilities, and Health Services in responding to emergency/crisis situations in the residence halls.
  • The Area Coordinator is expected to maintain a work schedule that will maximize contact with students, often before and after regular institutional office hours.
  • Extreme flexibility is required to be successful in this position. Attendance at campus functions, student programs, and after-hours emergency response is regularly required.
  • The Area Coordinator should have an active interest in the development of students in their personal and academic pursuits.
  • This position requires the Area Coordinator to live on campus, in housing accommodations provided by the University. The position participates in the campus-wide crisis management duty rotation.
  • Provide Leadership and direction for the residence halls including promoting the development of community through passive and active programming and event
  • Supervision of professional staff including emergency response and crisis management
  • Training, monitoring, and supervision of Resident Assistants on the student conduct process
  • Interaction, customer service, and problem-solving with students, parents, and colleagues
  • Work with other campus departments to foster bridges to the Resident experience such as working with faculty for living learning communities or common interest communities

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • Masters Degree preferred

Work Experience:

  • Minimum of 1 year

Annual Salary: $56,500

  • Ability to communicate with a variety of different constituents on campus
  • Demonstrated skills in human development and ability to interpret policies, plans, and regulations
  • Recruitment and follow up for the various specialized housing communities and needs (international, athletics, lgbtqia+, exchange students, students with special needs, etc.)
  • Supervision of resident assistants and quality of community programming
  • Assessment and response for emergency services
