GRADUATE ASSISTANT, COLLEGIATE SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY ENTRY PROGRAM (CSTEP)

The Manhattan University Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program (CSTEP) provides academic enrichment and research experience in STEM content areas. CSTEP engages eligible students who are completing majors that lead to careers in STEM and health-related fields, through entrance into professional licensures.

Each year, CSTEP serves approximately 165 students studying in Manhattan University’s School of Engineering and the Kakos School of Arts and Sciences. As a statewide initiative that addresses underrepresentation in STEM fields, CSTEP at Manhattan University has supported many students in completing their degrees successfully by providing access to a pre-freshman summer program, tutors, academic coaches, advising, and mentorship opportunities. Additionally, there is assistance for participants with their postgraduate goals, which can include employment, pursuing a professional licensure, or accessing graduate degrees. Our CSTEP alumni have advanced to PhD programs, medical schools, and other leadership roles in their respective industries.

The Graduate Assistant position is grant-funded through June 2025. Employment past this date is contingent on renewal. The Graduate Assistant, under the supervision of the Senior Assistant Director, will be required to:

  • Support a caseload of students using a holistic advising approach

  • Support CSTEP signature events including Alumni Night and Career Fair Prep Days

  • Contribute to CSTEP recruitment efforts throughout the year including open house(s) and marketing campaigns

  • Provide academic advisement for students through routine check-in meetings to discuss progress, and provide insights on topics such as financial aid and academic support resources

  • Serve as a point person for organizing CSTEP activities and workshops, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders including faculty, and Jasper Central to support the mission of CSTEP and the University.

  • Support University-Wide persistence and retention efforts via Jasper Connect Flags/Notes

  • Track and assess CSTEP students’ participation and progress, and compile data necessary for state reporting.

  • Maintain an “open door” policy to program participants.

  • Perform other duties as required

Background Required:

  • The Graduate Assistant will be passionate about the mission of CSTEP

  • Experience working with a similar population of students in a related program
