Position Title: CSTEP Summer Program Peer Mentor
Compensation:
Mentors will be paid a stipend of $3,000 to cover training days, program orientation, and all hours of operation throughout the length of the program. Daily lunch will be provided and a MetroCard, if needed.
Position Summary:
CSTEP (Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program) at Manhattan University is hiring student workers for the position of CSTEP Summer Program Peer Mentor for our collaborative six-week summer program. This program aims to support incoming CSTEP freshmen students and assist with their transition into college. Peer mentors will be an integral part of an established team which aims to facilitate the entrance of students from low-income, first generation, and underrepresented backgrounds.
The CSTEP Summer 2025 Program will run from June 23rd – July 31st, Monday – Friday, 8:30 am – 5:30 pm with varying daily shifts. The program is expected to run fully on-campus. There is one evening activity, mandatory training leading up to the summer program, and an Orientation on Sunday, June 22nd built into the role. This is an in-person, on-campus, non-remote position.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:

Ensure attendees are fully supported throughout the six weeks to assist with their successful transition into college

Devise, deliver and support University Skills content and co-curricular activities

Ensure participants attend lectures, meals, and activities on time

Available to audit courses and act as peer tutor and/or teacher assistant

Act as liaison between students, instructional and professional staff

Provide mentoring support for a small group of participants

Attend daily and/or weekly meetings to discuss student progress and concerns

Work to ensure all attendees are safe and are in accordance with the Manhattan University Code of Conduct

Provide a flexible approach and contribute fully within the team

Other special projects and duties as assigned

To participate in all Summer Program related activities including program orientation & scheduled activities

To engage fully with making the summer program a success

Qualifications:

Open to all Manhattan University students in good academic standing, including Spring 2025 graduates

Ability to create a friendly and approachable atmosphere, while maintaining professionalism, in order to assist students in a university setting

Some experience with organizing and delivering activities to students

Full program participation for the entirety of the six-week period, from June 23rd to August 1st. Additionally there will be 3-4 mentor/tutor training days in May and/or early June
