Position Title: Tutors & Writing Consultants

Reports to: Melinda Wilson, Director, Center for Academic Success

The purpose of tutoring in the Center for Academic Success is to assist students in academic achievement by clarifying learning obstacles and practicing study strategies. Tutoring is an extension of what is taking place in the classroom and provides students with additional opportunities to take control of their own learning.

Similarly, Writing Consultants’ purpose is to provide expert feedback on student writing, guiding student writers in areas such as argumentation, analysis, organization, clarity, grammar & mechanics, citation, and other relevant skill sets.

Targeted Courses for Subject-Specific Tutors:

ACCT302 & BIOL111

(Please do not apply unless you are eligible to tutor in one of the above courses.)

Job Requirements:

  • Attend staff-wide training at the beginning of each semester

  • Attend tutor training workshops over the course of the first year in order to become Level 1 certified through the College Reading & Learning Association

  • Provide face-to-face and online tutoring to individual students

  • Keep accurate and up to date records of attended/missed/late appointments on Jasper Connect

  • Submit outcome reports after every session

  • Develop educational handouts on special topics

  • Maintain a schedule of working hours with requests to cancel a shift with at least 24 hours notice

  • Read and respond to emails in a timely fashion

  • Submit required paperwork (timesheets, schedules, etc.) in a timely fashion

  • Remain in good academic standing

  • Overall GPA of 3.2

Compensation: $16.50/hour with raises tied to CRLA certification
