Student Supplemental Instructor

Position Title: Supplemental Instruction (SI’s)

Department: Center of Academic Success

Compensation: $17.00/hour with raises tied to CRLA certification

Reports to: Melinda Wilson, Director, Center for Academic Success

Position Summary:

SI’s attend the course they are partnered with and run weekly study/review sessions. Study sessions are facilitated by peer educators who have previously completed the targeted course and received a minimum of an A-. During the study sessions, peer educators facilitate collaborative study by utilizing group study strategies and techniques specific to the course.

Targeted Courses for Supplemental Instructors:

PSYC150, MATH100, MATH186, CHEM101, BIOL111, PHYS101, HIST217, HIST150, RHS315, ENGL110

Job Requirements:

  • Attend staff-wide training at the beginning of each semester, and additional workshops throughout the year as deemed necessary by the CAS staff

  • Attend optional tutor certification workshops throughout the year

  • Attend team meetings twice a semester for support and supervision

  • Attend the targeted course once a week to be a visible presence in the classroom, serve as a model student (including note-taking and active listening), and ensure constant and consistent knowledge of the lecture and expectations

  • Facilitate a minimum of two SI study groups each week in a predetermined location

  • Integrate course content and appropriate study skills in weekly sessions

  • Meet with partnering faculty once per month, support classroom instruction, and provide regular updates to faculty once per month

  • Recruit students for weekly sessions through distributing promotional materials and making relevant announcements

  • Monitor student attendance, collect data and keep an up-to-date schedule of all sessions in Jasper Connect

  • Overall GPA of 3.2
