Position Title: Student Success Mentors (Federal Work Study ONLY)
Department: Center of Academic Success
Compensation: $16.50/ hour with raises tied to CRLA Certification
Reports to: Melinda Wilson, Director, Center for Academic Success
Position Summary:
A Student Success Mentor individually supports peers in identifying and implementing solutions for overcoming barriers to academic success. Students will learn college success strategies and self-advocacy skills necessary for success throughout college and beyond.
Job Requirements:

Attend staff-wide training at the beginning of each semester, and additional workshops throughout the year as deemed necessary by the CAS staff
-
Attend tutor training workshops over the course of the semester in order to become certified through the College Reading & Learning Association
-
Meet with students individually or in small groups to provide learning assistance or coaching in :
-
reviewing syllabi and organizing schedule
-
developing study techniques and strategies
-
note taking and synthesizing information
-
effectively managing and prioritizing time
-
test preparation strategies
-
goal setting and attainment
-
Refer students to other academic support services (tutoring, SI, counseling center.)
-
contribute to social media and other marketing content to increase engagement with the program twice a semester

Maintain accurate and up to date attendance records of appointments and events in Jasper Connect
-
Read and respond to emails in a timely fashion
-
Submit required paperwork (timesheets, schedules, etc.) in a timely fashion

Maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.2

Be in good academic and judicial standing at the University

Make at least a one-semester commitment

Demonstrate reliability and a strong work ethic

Demonstrate patience and a desire to help others succeed

Demonstrate responsibility and appropriate etiquette

Demonstrate interpersonal communication skills
