Position Summary: The Department of Biological and Chemical Sciences at Manhattan University invites applications for the position of Director of General Chemistry Labs. This key role supports student learning through innovative laboratory experiences while ensuring safe, efficient lab operations. Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare setups for the following labs before each class begins: General Chemistry I Lab, General Chemistry II Lab, and Topics in Science Labs
  • Help hire, train, and supervise the adjunct lab instructors
  • Teach chemistry labs with an emphasis on creating accessible and engaging learning experiences
  • Develop and maintain inclusive course materials on the Moodle platform for General Chemistry I and II labs
  • Edit laboratory manuals to clarify and improve experimental procedures and lab report requirements
  • Prepare chemical reagents and solutions with careful attention to safety and precision
  • Implement environmentally responsible chemical waste management following state regulations
  • Maintain comprehensive inventory systems, procure supplies, and organize materials efficiently
  • Ensure proper maintenance and accessibility of laboratory instruments
  • Create and maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming laboratory environment for all students and staff

Qualifications:

  • Master's or Ph.D. degree in Chemistry or related field (candidates from diverse academic backgrounds are encouraged to apply)
  • Laboratory management experience or research experience in chemical sciences (experience in educational settings, industry, or community labs welcome)
  • Ability to obtain, maintain and renew a certificate of fitness for non-production chemical laboratories (C-14)
  • Commitment to inclusive teaching practices and supporting students from all backgrounds
