Position Title: School of Engineering Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTAs)
Hourly Rate: $18.00
Reports To: The Graduate Program Director and Department Chair of respective department and/or graduate program.
Position Summary:
Graduate Teaching Assistants (GTAs) will assist faculty instructors and members of the technical staff in the laboratory classes, including computer labs. They will be responsible for the preparation, operation, and maintenance of regular lab setups before, during, and after each class. "When hired, the student will be assigned to a specific Engineering department, namely Chemical Engineering, Civil & Environmental Engineering, Electrical & Computer Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering. They will report to the Department Chairperson and the Graduate Program Directors within each department
Responsibilities:
- Assist the faculty instructors, when needed, by ensuring safe operations and train students on basic lab safety.
- Assist the technical staff by operating the equipment in a safe and appropriate manner and by assisting with routine maintenance and troubleshooting.
- In computer and design labs, the GTAs will be responsible for maintaining the equipment in working order, performing routine maintenance and upgrades, troubleshooting, and seeking technical assistance when necessary.
- Instruct students on computer software applications and troubleshoot student projects.
- GTAs will tutor students and assist them with their courses, when necessary.
- Assist the faculty in the department with student recruitment efforts by participating in events such as Open House, Awareness Day, and other events.
- Other special projects and duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- The GAs must have received a BS degree in their respective major field of engineering.
- Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher at the undergraduate level.
