Position Title: Chaperone/Resident Advisor (RA) – Residential Add-On Program

Location: Manhattan University, Riverdale, NY

Compensation: $16.50/hour (evenings, overnights, and weekend hours required)

Program Overview:

The Residential Add-On Program at Manhattan University is a weeklong immersive experience for high school students participating in non-credit academic enrichment programs. Students stay in on-campus dorms and enjoy various planned social, cultural, and recreational activities in the evenings and on the weekends. These include guided visits to popular New York City destinations such as the Empire State Building, the American Museum of Natural History, and a Broadway show.

Position Summary:

We are hiring responsible and enthusiastic Resident Advisors (RAs)/Chaperones to supervise high school students during their stay on campus. RAs are responsible for fostering a safe, inclusive, and enjoyable residential environment and guiding students during off-campus excursions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide overnight supervision in the residence hall.

  • Accompany students on scheduled excursions throughout New York City.

  • Lead and participate in evening and weekend activities.

  • Ensure student safety and uphold program rules and curfews.

  • Serve as a supportive and approachable presence for students.

  • Serve as a resource to resident students.

  • Act as the first point of contact for residents in need of assistance.

  • Participate in an on - call rotation to provide 24/7 support for residents.

  • Conduct room inspections.

  • Assist with the move in and move out process, including welcoming residents and conducting room condition reports.

  • Attend all mandatory staff meetings trainings an workshops.

  • Assist with logistical coordination of activities and transportation.

  • Communicate with program staff and report incidents as needed.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Must be enrolled as a senior or graduate student at the University.

  • Experience working with high school students in a camp, school, or residential setting for at least one summer/academic season, or related.

  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to stay calm and professional in fast-paced or unpredictable situations

  • CPR/First Aid certification preferred (or willingness to obtain)

  • Due to responsibilities of this position, must be able to reside in on campus housing for duration of the program.

  • Must pass a background check

Work Schedule:

  • Evening, overnight, and weekend shifts from July 7, 2025 - August 9, 2025.

  • Participation in a mandatory training session during the week of July 28, 2025.
