GRADUATE ASSISTANT, HEOP

The Higher Education Opportunity Program is designed to support students from first-generation, underrepresented, or underprepared backgrounds. HEOP will serve up to 30 students across all classes and all majors.

The Graduate Assistant (GA) will play a pivotal role in supporting students and will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Manage a small caseload of students as a secondary advisor, with a focus on academic support, financial aid guidance, study skills development, and career or graduate school planning.

  • Assist in the planning, coordination, and execution of workshops and events.

  • Contribute to HEOP social media communities and manage program-related email communications.

  • Regularly monitor, maintain, and update student records and notes in the student success software system.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Prior experience mentoring or tutoring students from historically underserved or underprepared backgrounds

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present to groups of students

  • Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills

  • Demonstrated ability to multitask and manage time effectively

  • Proficiency with standard computer software (e.g., Microsoft Office, Google Workspace)

  • Personable, with the ability to work effectively with a diverse population of students, staff, and faculty

  • Availability to work twenty (20) hours per week throughout the semester. Normal hours of operation are Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM

The Graduate Assistant (GA) will be enrolled in a graduate degree program at Manhattan University and will receive up to nine credits of tuition remission per semester.

Tuition remission does not apply to Summer or Winter Intersession courses. Any work performed during these intersessions will be compensated at an hourly wage.
