Position Title: Jasper Central Specialist - Financial Aid

Salary: $55,000-$60,000

Jasper Central is a department at Manhattan University that brings together the essential services of Financial Aid, Registrar, and Student Accounts / Bursar in one convenient location on campus to provide students with a seamless and efficient experience.

Position Summary:

In consultation with the Director of Jasper Central, the Specialist will be responsible in providing direction and coordination with Federal and State Financial Aid. This individual will also be responsible to work collaboratively in managing student issues. This is an in-person, on-campus, non-remote position.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Counsel students/parents on eligibility for federal, state, university, and private aid programs.
  • Assist in developing strategies for financing a University education, including consideration of debt management with the Loan Coordinator.
  • Oversee the New State Programs such as TAP, STEM, ETA and World Trade Center award.
  • Responsible for certifying all State Awards and reconciliation of State grants.
  • Communicates clearly, accurately, and in a timely manner with clients, their families, other office staff, and University departments regarding individual students, their aid, and assistance needed to resolve student problems with the Customer Service Supervisor.
  • Works tactfully and effectively to resolve problems for individual applicants in a timely manner, prioritizing tasks to minimize the possibility of negative impact on student recruitment and retention.
  • Use technical knowledge regarding financial aid programs and associated legislation and need-analysis theory and computations to review student application information to determine financial aid eligibility.
  • Maintain familiarity with federal/state aid programs in order to maintain standards, define new system activity, and assist in advising staff, students, parents, and other constituencies as deemed appropriate.
  • Assist with outreach activities.
  • Other special projects and duties as assigned.
  • Required to work in person, on campus five days a week.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Must have the ability to think critically and perform
  • complex tasks.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work cooperatively with co-workers are required.
  • Must be able to work some evenings and weekends.
  • Employment is dependent upon successful access to the National Student Loan Data System, which requires all federal student loans to be in good standing and not in default and a credit check to review that student loans are not in default
