Working out of a Centralized Advising Office, Academic Advisors will be responsible for managing a caseload of students through targeted and intentional exchanges. By applying a holistic model of support and following best practices, Academic Advisors will engage students throughout their time at Manhattan College. They will pay special attention to a student’s transition into their degree, and empower them to achieve educational success during their first year of studies. Students will move to a faculty advisor once they have achieved satisfactory academic progress and, where applicable, chosen a major.

Academic Advisors will be cross trained across one or more of the academic schools. Under the guidance of the Associate Director of Academic Advising, they will:

  • Register all new incoming students, providing them with a schedule in a timely manner

  • Foster a welcoming and supportive transition for first-year students

  • Provide tailored advising to a caseload of 175-250 students, maintaining individual student records

  • Follow guidance to effectively prioritize student meetings and triage their needs

  • Assist students to identify their barriers and obtain resources to overcome them

  • Facilitate a smooth transition for students to their faculty advisors

  • Maintain an open-door policy to all students through to graduation

  • Collaborate on developing and administering orientation and other student programming efforts for incoming first year students

  • Coordinate with campus stakeholders to secure opportunities across campus for all students, including those students with disabilities

  • Participate in the development of web pages

  • Disseminate student and faculty resources related to academic advising

  • Participate in professional development to ensure Manhattan University is providing evidence-based and best practices in advising and student support

  • Assist with student analysis, program evaluation, and assessment efforts

  • Advisors may be required to work one alternative schedule each week to facilitate evening opening hours until 6:00pm

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field, master's degree preferred

  • Three to five years of experience working with Hispanic, Pell-eligible and other URM students

  • Ability to relate well with students, faculty, staff, administration

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Willing to work evenings and weekends as required

The salary range for this position will be $62,525 - $67,500
